Chaos

On my way home from work at noon today, mom sent me a text saying "be prepared for chaos." When I got home, she was frantically taking all the contents of Papa's closet out and relocating them to my bed, boxing up and moving items out of the Room of Crap, and covering everything with construction-grade plastic. Why? Because the workers decided that today would be a good day to start taking out the chimney. Originally they gave us Thursday as a potential date for that adventure....meaning we had penciled in another day and a half to clean up and box things. Oh boy. The chimney runs through the wall between the Room of Crap and my parent's room and then down through the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. After our part of the job was done, the workers made themselves a floor to ceiling room out of plastic on both sides of the wall with the chimney in it and got about three feet of it removed before they headed out for the day (not counting the outside part that was taken down earlier in the day.

In other areas of construction, the masons were back today and put in a row of concrete blocks around the garage slab, and filled in one of the new basement windows with cement blocks. We all realized that the location of the left basement window (when looking at the addition from our back yard) would be a water-trap....funneling all the water from the roof, garage, and driveway into our basement via the basement window.  So we (aka the masons) filled it in and will cut a new window into the cement wall somewhere else to replace the one we lost.

And last but not least, all the walls inside the addition were framed up today! Hooray!
