I've been a little slow this week in updating this blog, but construction this week has been just as slow as I have...
Only a couple things happened this week:
1. They covered the outside of the styrofoam molding with tar-paper waterproofing sheets
2. They filled the floor of the basement with gravel that arrived in a truck that so closely resembled a cement truck that mom and I were quite perplexed as to why they were going to pour cement without a gravel bed to put it on....but then gravel came out the shoot think instead of cement!
3. The excavator came in and backfilled the remaining space left around the basement and smoothed out the yard and our driveway where huge have cut into the mud by various gigantic trucks.
4. And then we waited around for a couple days until yesterday when the only professional stone cutter in the Duluth area was available to cut through the 22 inch thick bluestone that makes up our existing basement walls. Our contractor realized that they would have to cut into that wall to make an entryway connecting our existing basement to the new one before they framed up the addition or else they would not be able to remove the pieces in any way than hoisting them through a window. The stone cutter used a 54 inch round saw blade to do the job. It was gigantic! And super loud as you can probably imagine.

The proud owners of gigantic rocks....now the question of the week: where to put them?! |

This will be where our new garage goes |

The GIGANTIC 54'' saw blade. The circle to the far left is the sump pump they installed for comparison |

And the gigantic chain saw at his feet was used to clean up the corners |
