Windows, Saws, and Garages Galore

Yesterday saw a little bit of everything....The concrete/stone cutter was back and cut out a new basement window since the masons filled in the other one this week. He also used that same GIGANTIC saw that he used on to cut the doorway in the old basement wall to cut a chunk out of the old wall next to the doorway so they can use the space for ductwork into the new part. That way they don't have to run pipes and wires and whatnot through the doorway. Meanwhile, they finished removing the chimney through the second floor (the rest of it comes out next week) and patched up the hole with drywall, and started framing up garage walls! And all the windows were delivered as well and are now sitting inside the addition. With this project, we are replacing all the windows in our house with new, vinyl, double hung ones. No more storm windows! Hooray!

Saying that, I am headed to the cities today for the weekend, but when I left home at lunch, the guys were replacing all the old windows in our upstairs (not counting mine and the bathroom windows, which were replaced maybe four years ago). They took out all the old windows at the same time, leaving four gaping holes in our walls. Then they bored three holes maybe two or two and a half inches in diameter into each side of the remaining frame and shoved insulation into the space with what looked like a wooden ruler (it wasn't actually a ruler, but it was about the same shape and size as one). I left my camera at home with my momma, so pictures of today's adventure and whatever happens tomorrow will come on Sunday when I get back!

Hard to see, might be easier if you click the picture to make it bigger, but this is where they cut out a chunk of old foundation for ductwork to go through

Salvaging rocks. Naturally.
New window location
Looks like they just pushed the new window out of the hole like the game Jenga!
Chimney bricks that are probably original to the house (aka 100+ years old!)

Lots of creative temporary support beams to keep the garage together overnight! One nailing the north wall to the east wall, one nailing the north wall to the unfinished west wall that is still sitting on the floor, and one nailing the south wall to the house!

Need any PVC corners? We got 'em...
